opening file
i cannot open a certain excel file using windows explorer, but can open it
from inside excel. this file is the only file that this happens with (all others i can open either through explorer or excel itself). it is like it is corrupted, but it works fine once opened. any suggestions on how to "clean" it off and get it back to normal? p.s. it seems like the blaster worm coincided w/ this problem. i know this is simplistic in nature and not a vb programming question, but i can't get an answer. maybe someone knows right off the top of their head: thank you, mike allen. |

Mike,
I am not positive on what is happening. But to me, it seems that Windows has forgotten the association of xls file with MS Excel. Here's how to re-associate xls file to MS Excel. 1) Start | Control Panel 2) Folder Options 3) File Types tab Examine to see if XLS is associated with Microsoft Excel Worksheet. If it is associated with XLS, then I am stuck too. No need to read further. If not, proceed to step 4) 4) Hit the New Button....file extension XLS and hit the advanced button to find Microsoft Excel Worksheet. Hope that helps. Again, I am not positive of my solution, so use with caution. Best regards, Kevin H.
