Virus Warning
 

Notice to all - I just got a return on an email (that I didn't send) that it
contained the SoBig virus.

Our computers here have tight virus control, and I double checked for any
virus. So it couldn't have come from here (?)

Recommend that if you have my name in your address book that you check for
the virus.

the virus puts a fake/spoofed reply to addresses on the emails it sends
out. It can get the addresses from the actual infected users address book
or other vulnerable computers it can reach - it almost definitely didn't
come from the person shown in the reply to address or if you receive such a
notification (indicating you sent it) it wasn't you that sent it.

Tom,

Thanks! Just trying to get a warning out.

My security systems are pretty tight which makes me confident that it didn't
come from here. I also have an anti-spam name in my address book that would
give me a warning that a virus had tried to send an email from here.

In my experience the From field is always forged but the accurate
relaying address (i.e. the intermediate sender) is still in the header.
In Outlook and OE, right click the unopened message/properties/details
for header information. Thus there is someone to notify - assuming your
virus checker did not do so automatically.

Thanks! I'll keep this in mind for the future. Unfortunately I am just
getting "reject" notices and not the offending email (maybe that's a good
thing).

But they keep coming... Takes some sick minds to make that virus stuff...

Fortunately - our systems here protect (?) me.
