read-only error
when I try to open a file I get the following error
message: The file is not accesable. The file may be a read-only file or you may be trying to access a read only location. I have opened this file many times previously without any problem. I can open other files from the same drive without any problem. Any suggestions on how to open the file would be greatly appreciated. |

Be sure to include the Internet Temp folder, and the Recycle Bin
The internet folder is a real killer for me. It sometimes gets into the 1,000's of files and drives Excel nuts. steve "Tom Ogilvy" wrote in message ... close all apps. try deleting all files in your temp directory. Then reboot. Open Excel and try to open it. If it doesn't open, then try to find someone with Excel 2002 which has a repair utility. Perhaps it can open the file. If not, you may want to download OpenOffice and see if you can open the file in that. If not, then the file may be corrupted past the point of no return. Note that you should make a copy of the file and work on the copy of the file. -- Regards, Tom Ogilvy "peter" wrote in message ... when I try to open a file I get the following error message: The file is not accesable. Also. I'm having a terrible time with similar problems. In my case, Excel
remains running as a process and I need to stop the Excel process before trying to run Excel again and load the temperamental file. Have a look to see if Excel remains running as a process. Causing me a lot of grief. regards, Les Hay "Tom Ogilvy" wrote in message ... close all apps. try deleting all files in your temp directory. Then reboot. Open Excel and try to open it.
