User-defined function with a naming format of =ABC.XYZ.

Is there a way to create an user-defined function in Excel
2000/2002 with a naming format of =ABC.XYZ(...)?

I see Microsoft provides a couple of functions ERROR.TYPE
and REGISTER.ID natively in Excel.

I'm unable to do this using VBA in Excel. Is there some
other route I can adopt to accomplish this?

Thanks much,

I don't think so.

Excel 2002 VBA Help says "Name of the Function; follows standard variable
naming conventions." and "Visual Basic Naming Rules ... You can't use a
space, period (.), exclamation mark (!), or the characters @, &, $, # in the
name."
