Can't see/use folders on home network signed on as administrator

I can nto see or utilize any of my files on mu home networkk. The files are
stored on the hard drives of my other computers on my home network. I can see
the computers and the folders, I can not see the files in the folers, unless
I have recently stored them on the computer in the folders. Use XP Pro
system-wide. No recent software or update changes of note.

Using MS Defender, Spysweeper, McFee and Norton

The piece of this that really confuses me is that you can ever see them at
all - the "...unless I have recently stored them on the computer in the
folders." I presume by "the computer" you mean one on the network, not the
one you are trying to get to it from.

This is also not really a subject for the Excel forum - it's more of a
Windows networking issue. Some details on the physical setup of the network
would possibly be helpful - connected thru a hub, switch or router? Are you
in a Domain or Workgroup? I'll presume a workgroup. What operating
system(s) are the computers using?

Check the basics:
All machines in the same workgroup, all machines with unique names. Easiest
to deal with the whole thing if you have duplicate accounts on all machines,
but not a requirement. Are you storing the files you wish to share in the
Shared Files folders on the other systems? Do you have [File and Printer
sharing for Windows Networks] enabled for the connection (look in Control
Panel | Network Connections, right click on each connection, choose
Properties and see if it's there on the machines you want to see files on).
Finally, check and see if the folders you're trying to look at are have
sharing enabled so that other users can look into them. But the easiest
thing to do is put files to be shared into the Shared Documents folders on
each machine.

My workgroup here now has 5 systems on it (Gigabit switch, 10/100 DHCP
firewalling router assigning IPs, all on XP Pro or MCE) and while I can
pretty much look anywhere I want on any system, I have one machine designated
as the one to place files to be shared by all on that can be accessed by all
other systems.

You have McAfee and Norton on the same machine? Are you using either one's
firewall tool or just the anti-virus? If so, their firewall could be doing
this, but I would think you'd not be able to see the other machines at all if
the firewall was up and in place properly.

While I can't point to specific evidence and I actually don't think this
should have anything to do with the problem, but both of those anti-virus
applications are pretty invasive of a system at a low level and who knows
what conflicts would be generated by having both running at the same time on
the same machine. I haven't used either in years, having switched to
Kaspersky after experimenting with several for a couple of years.

Oh, and I finally clued in that you're running XP Pro on all machines.
