Changing column widths in excel

I need to change the column width on the bottom of my worksheet without
affecting the top. Is there a way to do this?

Merge in cells to the right of the column at the bottom of the column.

Becky, column width is for the whole column, you could under format cells,
alignment, check merge cells, or under text alignment, horizontal, select
center across selection. I try NOT to use the merge cells because this can
be a problem when you want to sort and other things.
