How do I create the faded color effect like the tornado chart example in

You can access these effects on the "Format data series" option (right click
over the serie is a way to access it), and then click on the fill effects
button, on the area section of the patterns tab.

Hope this helps,
Miguel.

Not really, the version that I have doesn't offer the same "fade out"
effect as in the picture. Is there some plug-in that I have to
download?

I don't know about that, I am using Excel 2003, and it is present by default.
Sorry for not being able to help more,
Miguel.

If you have Excel 2002, from the format window, on the colors & lines tab,
click the dropdown for fill color. On the bottom is "fill effects". You
want a gradient, one color, horizontal shading style.

It's available in xl2000 onwards.

It may help if you told us what version you think you have.

Cheers
Andy
