What does the "+" do?

Hello Folks. Its good to be back.

I have just received a spreadsheet that contains the following formula.
=+'Dry Goods'!E426
Whilst I understand what it does, I have never seen the + symbol used in
conjuction with it.
Deleting the + symbol makes no difference the the formula result.
Please can someone tell me why it was used in the first place.

Your help is and always has been very much appreciated.
Thanking you in anticipation.

What does the "+" do?

That's an old and harmless habit of Lotus users.
You can safely delete the +
