When importing data to a Pivot Table chart (by dragging it) the field setting
default is COUNT. Can I change this default to AVERAGE or SUM?

Excel will use Sum if all the data in that field/column is numeric. If there's
anything else (text or even an empty cell), excel will show count.

I don't think you can change this behavior.

Thanks for the information. However, I want the default behaviour to be SUM
or AVERAGE, but I'm getting COUNT, even though all the data I'm dragging is
numeric (the result of a calculation on another worksheet in the workbook,
linked by Paste Link).

Any other ideas most welcome!

You have at least one empty/blank/non-numeric cell in that field, else you would
have seen Sum. (Maybe the range includes an extra row at the bottom???)

And when you find a way to change this behavior, please post back.
