calculating time

I'm creating a timesheet workbook for my employer. "Night
differential" is paid from 1800 to 0600. "Regular pay" applies to the
rest of the day. We have to show time spent on various job tasks across
a day. Beneath each tsak are cells labeled "start" and "stop." Each
task lists 3 to 4 "start"/"stop" periods. The only way I've worked
out to calculate "night differential" is to "start" or "stop" exactly
at 1800 or "start" or "stop" at 0600. Is there a way to make excel
seperate night differential from regular pay if a "start" time listed,
for example, 1700 and had a "stop" time of 1900?
