Default Excel unable to sort any numbers

Have a plain table of whole integers, nothing unusual. This is a new PC. If I
try to sort on a column, no sort is performed. (The order might remain as
693, 166, 9968, for example). Nothing is locked nor protected. I have never
had this problem before. This spreadsheet sorted ok on my old PC. What is
wrong?

When you are doing the sort under 'data'...'sort'....'options' see if the
sort left to right is checked off rather than sort top to bottom.
