Default Row and Column References

Is there any way to eliminate having the R1C1 property from being changed
when you open a spreadsheet. I want to keep the alpabetic references and not
allow the R1C1 propery to be modified by any open action?

Pascal,

What I really want is to keep any spreadsheets from changing the "R1C1
Reference" setting. I can establish the Alpha characters like you suggest
but if you open a spreadsheet that was emailed to you and it has the numeric
references it changes the setting in the General tab permanently.

Is there any way to ensure that the R1C1 check box is never altered?

Thanks!

Bill
