i am trying to open my excel file but was not able to open it because the
text import wizard pops up?

What do I need to do to disable this?

Is your file an Excel file (XLS)?
As it seems it is not since you mention the text import wizard, may be it is
a CSV file in which case you will have to convert it to a XLS?
