Did you hit alt-prtscr to get a picture of the active window?

Or did you hit ctrl-prtscr to get a picture of everything?

And did you hit edit|Paste within MSWord?

======
If you're looking to copy a few cells (as a picture), you can
select that range
shift-edit-copy picture

And paste into MSWord.

=====
Depending on what you're copying and pasting, you may find that you want to use
a dedicated program that allows you more control over what you're copying.

I use a program called Snagit!:
