How to make (XL) Merge Cells and Word Wrap work concurrently?

All,

Attempting to check Merge Cells and Word Wrap under Format Cells to create
an effective large text cell. They do not seem to work concurrently. Once the
cells are merged, word wrap does not work. This is a "want" as I am trying to
create a worksheet as data collection/exit report for testing and need the
format to be neat. Any thoughts on workarounds?

Merged cells do not hold any more text then any original single cell.

Merging 14 cells just creates one larger single cell with single cell
limitations.

One of those limitations is that the cell can hold 32767 characters but you can
view or print only 1024 of those by default. See specifications in Help.

One work-around is to insert a carriage return every 100 chars by hitting ALT +
ENTER.

Wrap Text works with merged cells.

However, row height autofit does not work with merged cells.
