Many thanks for your advice. As I am working to a strict deadlineI think
I'll go the first route i.e. load the other sheet and then unload.

I will try to rebuild the sheet at a later time. Will let u know if i find
anything else out.

it seems to work but if you do 'something' with the link reference, like use
it in a formula it doesn't work. I just programatically open the source
automatically when i open the spreadsheet and close it when i'm done.

Secondly i found two identical spreadsheets from different users, one links,
the other doesn't, don't know why but i remade the one that doesn't work from
scratch ?& now it works.
