My excel files will no longer open
 

My excel files will not open either from my documents or from a shared server
file.
I had a problem with saving word documents yesterday but fixed it by
changing a line in the regedit.
Is this related and how do I fix this one?

I followed this process to get rid of the problem with word, which was
successful. once i realised that i had a problem with Excel I also went in
and removed the update causeing the problem using add/delete programs. That
still didn't help.
I have now gone back to system restore and gone back to where I was on 12th
April and all is working again.
