Default Bug in Worksheet protection?

I've made a worksheet (Excel 2003) that I have protected. Most cells are
locked, only some are accessible to the people making use of it. I've set the
Worksheet protections (Tools - Protection - Protect Sheet) to only allow
selection of unlocked cells, locked cells should not be selectable.

However, after saving the worksheet, quitting Excel and starting it up
again, Excel seems to return to the default state of allowing people to
select both Unlocked and Locked Cells. As such, it seems to ignore the
Worksheet Protection I set earlier.

Am I missing a (logical) step here? Or alternatively, if this is an
'undocumented feature' of Excel, is it possible to add some VBA code that
simply takes away the possibility to select Locked Cells when the sheet is
loaded?

Sheet protection does not keep from selecting locked cells. It only prevents
from modifying them.

Not (entirely) true ... when you set the sheet protection, you get a
selection of what is still allowed and what isn't. The top two options are
respectively "Select Locked Cells" and "Select Unlocked Cells". After making
sure that only the second option is set, you can no longer click any Cells
that are Locked.

However, when you quit Excel and start it up again, the Sheet Protection is
set to the default again, which allows the selection of Locked Cells.

Default Bug in Worksheet protection?

Hi there,

I have the same problem. I created a spreadsheet, where I limited
which cells can be written into by 'locking cells' and then selecting
the second option, when protecting the sheet. I also protected the
spreadsheet with a password. I created the spreadsheet using 2003.

When people have used the spreadsheet and returned it I noticed I could
click in any cell, but not write into them (using 97 at this point).
That was until I selected 'unprotect worksheet' and I could write in
any cell. It didn't even ask me for a password. A number of people
were using 97 when using the excel spreadsheet.

As I don't want to share a lot of the formulas, is there any way of
ensuring proper protection?

Hope someone can help!
