Sharing an Excel Workbook - Help!

I put my excel file on my server. I made the file 'shared'. When 1
person is useing it, the other person who opens the file gets a Locked
error message.
Can anyone help?

I thought if the file is shared, then multiple people can access it and
make changes...

??

No, not at the same time. If you want that functionality it is better to use
a database program such as Access.
When you share a file the second person gets a copy and does not see what
the first person is doing. The second person will not know about the changes
until the first person exits, the second person exits and the second person
re-opens the file.
