Default Counta,vlookup,match???

I am trying to count the number of items times two words are displayed
next to each other in two different columns
For example below:

Cat Leg
Dog Arm
Horse Leg
Dog Arm
Cat Leg
Horse Arm

Is there a formula that I can use to count the number of times cat and
leg apear next to each other

You need to use sumproduct, if the data is in a2:b7 the following should
work for your example

=SUMPRODUCT((A2:A7="cat")*(B2:B7="leg"))

With your data in A1:A9 I entered in Cells C1
=A1&B1

and in D1 =COUNTIF($C$1:$C$9,C1)

and copied down

Maybe?
