How to speed up Autofiltering?

Hello
How to speed up Autofiltering? Excel 2003 sp2 hangs up for 10 minutes after
I choose a record in the Autofilter.

Can you turn calculation to manual?

Or try to interrupt it by pressing the escape key?

Thanks for your reply.
Turning calculation to manual does not speed up my filtering.
A pressing the escape key does not terminate my filtering.

Is this a large file with a lot of formulae? If so, you can fix the
values of the formulae so that Excel does not have to recalculate them
each time you select a different filter option.

Hope this helps.

I too have a workbook with a long list (about 13,000 lines of data) and
lots of formulae.
My workbook also has several tabs.
I have noticed the delay with the autofilter selection.
I think the problem may be with re-display more than calculation.
I say this because after making an autofilter selection, I can avoid
the wait by
clicking another tab and immediately coming back to my autofilter
sheet.
The data redisplays pronto.
Has anyone else noticed this?

I will try to click another tab and immediately come back to my autofilter
sheet.

Yes, It's a large file.
Why does Excel copies a cell so long from these files? The sandglass appears
for half a minute after I click Copy!

Hello
I cannot click another tab and immediately come back to my autofilter sheet,
because Excel becomes busy, does not answer.

I changed Calculation to manual. This does not speed up autofiltering
noticeably.

I've always had good luck with both those techniques. Sorry that they didn't
work for you.

My Excel does not respond to any command until a completion of the
autofiltering.
