How to determine the value of a printable character?

Using 2003

Would like to use a mid() to obtain all information in the text string (a
cell) up to the space before the "·" in (1029 · Money Market Acccount)

Therefore, in this case my formula would return "1029"

In another case my text is (1029-25 · Money Market Acccount)

In turn, my desired text would be "1029-25"

What combination of Find() or Mid() or what ever do I use to do the task?

Initially, I must ascertain how to obtain the chr() value of
the "·" character? No?

You can use the Code() function to find the code for the · character. It
happens to be 0183. Once you know this however, you can just type it into
your formula. No need to keep the Code() function.

=LEFT(A1,FIND("·",A1,1)-2)

The · was entered by holding down the ALT key and typing 0183.
