Is there any way to keep the Task Pane (pain) from displaying?
 
I'd like to get rid of this redundant display. It's only in my way. Anybody
know how?

Tools/ Options/ View
then uncheck "Startup Task Pane"

Try this:

ToolsOptionsView tab
Uncheck: StartUp task pane

Does that help?
