Blank workbook opens when try to open any existing book

Whenever I try to open any previously saved workbooks, Excel opens up a
blank workbook which it titles "Book 2" before it will open the
workbook selected. There are then 2 books open - a blank and my saved
version.

I have some formatting macros saved in my Personal Workbook which apply
to all workbooks which may have something to do with it.

But - if Excel is already running, I can open new workbooks fine.

Running Excel 2003.

Please help - its driving me mad!
