I would use conditional formatting. I have created an example and uploaded
it to http://cjoint.com/?bAkX4b3i5Q for you to check-out. -- HTH Bob Phillips (remove nothere from the email address if mailing direct) "wycherley" wrote in message ... It is automatic, add a name that is already there, and you will see that.

I can't see the spreadsheet but when you create the conditional
formatting you normally select entire columns so that when you get a match those cells on a row are highlighted. The formulas are based on the active cell. http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/condfmt.htm So if the names are not being highlighted they were not included in the selection. The formulas should have the active cell with $ with the column because each cell on the row will be checking that same column. --- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP - Excel [site changed Nov. 2001] My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm Search Page: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/search.htm "wycherley" wrote in message ... that is what i want but i need the name's to automatically be highlighted as i wont be the one operating the spreadsheet. -- wycherley ------------------------------------------------------------------------ wycherley's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=30857 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=505249 |
