there are a lot of columns but not many rows.
I am sure XL is trying to be helpful ... but I too really wish it wouldn't
and would love to know how to stop it doing so :)

If it is a usb infrared mouse then put a PS/2 mouse in as well. This balances
the mouse probelm Otherwise get an updated driver from the internet for your
mouse type.

This indeed worked. Thank you very much. Only difference is I used another
usb mouse. Plugged it in, unplugged it and all was well.
