How do I change column size for lower half of sheet?
Hello,
I am trying to create a spreadsheet with a grid in the lower half of the page. The upper half will appear as text when I print it, but the grid needs to be displayed in the lower half. I want to know if it is poosible to change the column size for the lower portion of a page, or if there is a workaround I can use. Perhaps I can create the grid in another spreadsheet and insert it into this one? I hope this is a clear explanation of what I am trying to do, if not I will try to clarify it if anyone asks. Thanks! |

Remove the gridlines from the entire sheet, and then add borders to the
bottom half. -- HTH, RD ================================================== === Please keep all correspondence within the Group, so all may benefit! ================================================== === "Varsil" wrote in message ... I think for your upper half you will have to treat 2 (or more) columns
as 1, maybe by merging cells, so that you can have the "appearance" of narrower columns lower down. If your upper portion is going to contain text, this will spill into the next column if it is empty, so you may not need to merge the upper columns. Hope this helps. Pete |

Hi Varsil. I'm afraid that it is not possible to have more than one width in
a single column. However, you could try setting the column width to what you would like on the lower half of the spreadsheet and use a text box on the top half. It would cover the grid on the spreadsheet and you could format the box to not have borders. Hello Varsil, If the spacing of the text in the upper half won't be effected by changing the column width, you could hide the gridlines in the upper half by changing them to white. Changing either row or column width effects the entire worksheet. Yoou could, as you mentioned, embed another spreadsheet. This option also gives you the ability to link the embedded sheet to a source file. Whenever the source file data changes, so will the embedded worksheet. How do I change column size for lower half of sheet?
Thank you all for your quick responses.
I had to go with the "Format the upper portion of the spreadsheet so that thye grid lines do not appear and allow the text to spill over" approach. Eventually I will figure out how to embed other sheets so the grid can be displayed the way I choose, as Leith Ross suggests, but I will live with what I am able to do now. Thank you all again for your help! |

Why don't you start out by changing *all* your column widths to something
like 2. That gives you a graph paper effect, where you can more exactly and accurately place your text. Then, when you hide the grid lines and define your borders, you'll get a display that should be closer to your target appearance. -- HTH, RD ============================================== Please keep all correspondence within the Group, so all may benefit! ============================================== "Varsil" wrote in message ... You could set the column widths how you want it in the bottom half and draw in a text box in the top half for your text. Someone else already mentioned combining cells in the top half. That is also a good solution. -- tallyman00 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tallyman00's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=29971 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=503404 |
