How do I get Excel to automatically group items?

I receive lists of a large number of rows. I would like to have Excel
automatically group based on an item that is the same. For example:

Item Date
ah 1/5/2005
aa 1/12/2005
ab 1/12/2005
ac 1/27/2005
ad 1/27/2005
ae 1/27/2005
af 1/28/2005
ag 2/1/2005

Is there a way for Excel to automatically group the items so that if you
click on you can see all items with the same date.

ah 1/5/2005
+ aa 1/12/2005
+ ac 1/27/2005
af 1/28/2005
ag 2/1/2005

Grouping Manually becomes a pain after about the 1st hundred or so groupings.

Thanks

You can use the DataSubtotals command, to subtotal at each change in date.

Thanks the DataSubtotals worked. I tried using sort but that doesn't
actually group the dates like the DataSubtotals. Thanks again!
