The currency symbol on all my spreadsheets has changed from Â£ to .

I have installed a new version of Excel on my computer. Now all spreadsheets
are using the $ instead of Â£ symbol - why has this happened, and how do I
change back? I have checked that English rather than US English is set up as
default on my op.system.
