CTRL-N will NOT open a new workbook in Excel

When user logs into Excel for first time, Book2 is the first workbook opened
(I don't know why it skips over Book1). When he attempts to create another
workbook by using the CTRL-N command, he gets the error message: "The Macro
'!CheckInstance' cannot be found". If it helps to know, he is only able to
create another workbook by using the New icon on the standard Toolbar. If he
tries by going to File-New... nothing happens.

He's opening a file that has stolen the ctrl-N keystroke.

Here are a couple of sites that explain how to troubleshoot startup problems:

Chip Pearson's:
http://www.cpearson.com/excel/StartupErrors.htm

Jan Karel Pieterse's:
http://www.jkp-ads.com/Articles/StartupProblems.htm

Essentially, you move all of the stuff out of XLStart and you turn off all the
addins under Tools|addins.

Then you start adding things back one at a time and testing each time to see if
the problem is fixed. When you add something back that causes the problem to
come back, you'll have to decide what to do with that addin.

As for the file|new not working, I'd try resetting the toolbar.

View|Toolbars|Customize|toolbars tab
select worksheet menu bar and click Reset

(It'll reset that whole toolbar, though.)

PERFECT! It was something contained in the Add-in €śexpress wizard€ť. When I
disable this add in and start a new instance of Excel, it opens with book 1
and I can use the CTRL-N function. I have not used the express wizard to
date, so not sure I need it. Will sort that out on another day. Thanks for
your help with this issue. It makes a person who lives on the quick key very
happy.
