Getting a gray screen
 
I am trying to open previous spreadsheets in Excel as well as a new one, all
i am getting is a gray screen. What can i do, I have tried the arrange button
and it is not offered.

And this happens with all workbooks when you double click on them in windows
explorer?

Sometimes one of these works:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

not be found, not just so i can make sure i am doing it right, i closed
excel, went to start then to run and typed in excel / unregserver, right??

After you run Excel with the /unregserver switch, you must run it
again with the /regserver switch.

i did that and i get the same error message with both instances. I am so
sorry, i am just getting really frustrated, we have been trying to figure
this out for 2 weeks.

then

excel /regserver

Okay i did that and it ran a configuration of microsoft xp small office and
then i tried pulling it back up and the same thing happened, nothing but a
gray screen.
