Default Skipping line on control break

Is there a way to cause a blank row inserted when there is a break in the
value of one of the columns the document is sorted on

While it's not *exactly* what you're asking for, you could use the
SubTotal feature in the Data menu to add the rows, but they will
include a label in one column, and a subtotal amount in at least one
other column.
You could then hide the detail rows, then use Select Special to
select only visible cells, and then delete any unwanted labels & sub
totals.
Hope this helps.
