Excel column headers
 

The column headers (in gray above my worksheet) are numbers instead of
letters. I have Excel 2003. How can this be changed? It is very confusing
when trying to write formulas.

This is one of your settings.

Go into
TOOLS OPTIONS
Then the GENERAL tab

There's an option for R1C1 refernce style
