I am having difficulty in creating a template. The 'help' info doesn't.
What are the first steps to creating a template?

Start a new workbook or use one you have already created.

Set it up as you wish.

It might pay to mention that the template (copy) can be accessed by clicking
<File <New
And in the newer versions, <(General) Templates in the task pane on the
right.

Click on the template name.
This opens a *copy* of the template, with a "1" appended to the template
name in the title bar, while the original remains protected in the templates
folder.
You can have as many copies simultaneously open as you wish, each with it's
own ID number appended to the name.
This copy can (should) be renamed and saved in the appropriate file after it
has been utilized..

When it becomes necessary to update and/or revise the original, just open a
copy as usual, make your revisions, and when ready for saving, duplicate
what Gord instructed you to do the first time ... HOWEVER ... remove the ID
number *first*, so that the copy has the exact name of the original
template, replacing the original in the templates folder.
You'll then be asked if you're sure that you want to replace the original,
to which you naturally answer "Yes".
