How Can I Read Formatting Data (ie Background Colour)

I'm using conditional formatting to rank various numeric data into Green,
Amber, Red cells (ie Good, Average, Bad). I want to then count the number
of "Green" cells. Ican't find a way to do this directly.

PS I'm aware I could replicate the conditional format tests into another are
of the spreadsheet and apply values using @if etc, but was trying to avoid
this if possible.

Thanks
