Default autofill

I have a spreadsheet where I add new numbers and some cells next to it
execute a formula whereas in others I have to manually use the autofill
handle. Somehow some cells/columns are set to automatically autofill when a
new datapoint is added next to it but some are not. If I manually autofill a
bunch of rows I get a bunch of zeros there which does not look nice. How do I
make it autofill when new data is added?
