copy paste problem?

I just ran into a Excel problem that is new to me. We are running Excel
2000.
If I have a formula =SUM(A1:C1) in cell D1 and I copy the formula to
cell D2 the formula in cell D2 should be =SUM(A2:C2) but it is not! it
is =SUM(A1:C1). Some settings must be off.

Please help!
Thanks,
Neil

When you have selected D1, try this, place the mouse cursor to the
right bottom corner of the cell until the cursor turns into a + click
and drad down to the next cell your formula will be copied,
I don't know why your copy paste won't work! it should, are you trying
to paste special?

Neil,

It sounds like you cut/paste instead of copy/paste.

Ctrl+x = cut
Ctrl+c = copy

Neil22

copy paste problem?

I am familiar with the two solutions listed and have tried them all.
Also this problem acts like the formula is a absolute reference, no $'s
are in the formula.

Thanks,
Neil

Change your calculation setting to automatic
Tools - Options - Calculations - Automatic

I hope this helps, I had the same problem
