Copying format to a new cell, w/o overwriting destination cell contents

Is there a way to copy the formatting of an existing cell to a new cell,
w/o overwriting destination cell contents?

Copying format to a new cell, w/o overwriting destination cell contents

the long way
copy ...paste special ....formats

the short way
click onto the cell
click onto copy painter
click onto the new cell

when you double click onto the format painter you can
copy the format onto several individual cells

copy painter is the yellow paint brush in the menu bar with
the copy, paste, and scissors icons.
