Excel Virus - Corrupts Default Options (Excel 2000)

A colleague of mine seems to have an Excel virus that corrupts a worksheet
and changes standard Excel column header settings from letters to numbers.
Once this worksheet is opened it seems to trigger a default through-out Excel
so that when-ever another worksheet is opened the column header settings
always show as numbers instead of letters.

Does anyone know of this virus and is there a way to solve it?

This is excel being excel.

It uses the first workbook that the user opens to determine this setting.

You can toggle it via:

tools|options|general tab|uncheck R1C1 reference style.

Then save the workbook that way.

But if other people like the R1C1 setting and that user opens one of their
workbooks first, they'll have to toggle that setting. Best to remember how to
do change it.

That is not a virus, but a setting.

Goto ToolsOptionsGeneral and uncheck the R1C1 reference style checkbox.
