Default unwanted csv date conversion

I have a CSV file with the following information:
"Co","Profile","Profile Name"
"003","MAR4","MARK ROGERS - District or Corp Accountant"
"004","MAR4","MARK ROGERS - District or Corp Accountant"

Excel is automatically converting my TEXT MAR4 field to 4-Mar (3/4/2005).
The only way I can find to avoid the incorrect conversion, is to change the
extension to *.txt, then Import it, and on that column, change it from the
default type of "General" to "Text".

Is there some setting somewhere I can change so that it stops doing this
automatically?

Thank you,

Lori Gordon
