What is the easiest way to convert an excel spreadsheet of contacts to a file
that can be readily imported into a yahoo adress book?

First of all you find out what file type the Yahoo address book will work
with.

*.csv or *.txt or some other structure like tab-delimited?

Then you can save your Excel workbook in that format.
