Mouse wheel scrolls sideways
 

I am using a Microsoft optical wheelmouse with an HP computer which is
only 6 months old. I'm running Windows XP service pack 2. Excel and
Word are the latest versions as of April, 05. Sometimes in Excel and
also in Word the cursor scrolls sideways instead of vertically. I have
checked the mouse settings several times and there doesn't seem to be
anything wrong. Does anybody know what is going on?

I've had that happen a few times. Closing and re-opening Excel
seems to cure the problem.
