How do I stop cell contents from spilling over into the adjacent cell?

I have a spreadsheet for progress notes for my business. While typing the progress notes, the text appears to be inside the right side border but when I hit enter, the text often times spills over and into the adjacent cell. I do not want to wrap the text, I want to be able to not have to guess where to stop typing to prevent the text from spilling over when enter is clicked.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

You can prepare by entering anything in the adjacent cell. For example, entering a "space" character there stops the spilling, and the adjacent cell still appears to be empty.
