how to select contents from a col which lies in between other columns

I have a sheet which contains the marks of students. row 1 contains the column headings. from A2:G32 i have data(marks and grades). I want to copy the total of marks which lies in G2:G32.I tried the following.
i select the G2 cell. then i pressed control +the down arrow to go to the last cell of the col.then i pressed control +shift+up arrow to go to the top with selection. Now i got the cells G32 :G1 selected. I clicked on the G1 to desselect it. then i clicked to copy. it gives error saying that it cannot be done on multiple selection. i want to select only the data cells not to include the column heading.how can i select the contents G2:G32 without adopting the method of selecting G2 and drag the mouse? how can i do this? thanks.

When you select G1 you're not deselecting it but reselecting it, so effectively it's selected twice, which is why you get the error message.

Select cell G2 then press Ctrl + Shift and then the down arrow. That will select the cells you need.
