Opening XLS (2003) workbooks in 2007 (XLSX)

I'm trying to open workbooks created in Excel 2003 in 2007, my understanding is when trying to open the XLS file in 2007 it should open in compatibility mode where I can then convert the file to the new format...

Only when trying to open an XLS file in 2007 I'm just getting the following error message...

The file you are trying to open. 'Capital Maintenance Questionnaire - Rev 17 @ 13 06 11.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before Opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?

Yes, No, Help

After clicking yes it opens to a whole load of jargon.

Any idea how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Any chance you could post the file for us to examine? It would make it easier to work out what's going on.

It's quite heavy with Macros so not sure if I could post it to here. I still have your email from a previous time you've helped me... I could send it there?
