Max number if characters in a merged cell

Maximum number of characters in my merged cell is 255. I thought that the
maximum number of characters in a cell is 1034. How can I fix this problem.

thanks

The maximum number of characters in any cell is about 32k.

The maximum number of characters you can see in the cell is about 1024 unless
you add alt-enters every 80-100 characters (to force new lines within the cell).

But that 255 number seems suspicious.

Does your merged cell have a formula that points to a closed workbook? If yes,
then that's the way excel works.

If you open the other workbook, you'll see all the characters.

You may have to adjust the rowheight manually, though.
