Too Many Cell Formats

After struggling with this problem, I have finally found somewhat of a
solution that has had some significant results. First with your workbook
open, highlight cells that you want to remove the special formatting such as
font, fill, borders, etc. Then select editclearformats to clear the
highlighted cells. This alone will not allow you to immediately add
formatting back into your workbook. You first need to save the workbook and
then close it. Reopen the file from excel, highlight the newly saved file in
the open excel window. You will notice in the lower right hand corner of this
window a drop-down arrow next to open. Click on the drop-down arrow, then
click on "open & repair. Now you should be able to add formatting equal to
what you had just cleared.--
