Trouble accessing a couple of established Excel 97 files

Using Excel 97; in trying to access a couple of my Excel files, I receive the
following error message:

"(file name) cannot be accessed. the file may be
ready only or you may be trying to access a read-only location or the server
the document is stored in may not be responding."

In the past there has been
no problems in opening these files. They were never saved as 'read-only'. I
am stumped...any suggestions? thanks

Maybe this FAQ at Debra Dalgleish's site will help:

Have these files been opened and saved in a newer version of Excel?
