Default Date format in Excel Templates .xlt

Hello
My computer is set to ddmmyyyy and Excel.xls defaults as ddmmyyyy, but I
have a template .xlt where the date format defaults as mmddyyyy. How do I
reset .xlt to ddmmyyyy?
Thanks
