Default how do I make 041960 appear like 041960 instead of 41960?

I am typing in 041960 and it is making it automatically change to 41960. How
can I stop this so the data appears as 041960?

Hi Gordiva

Format the cell as 000000

This is how you can do it:

Right click the cell and select format. In the pop up window in the
number tab you have a list of various formats. Select "custom" at the
end of the list. Once you select custom you get a list of custom
formats and you will see a text box just below "Type" which would show
"General" by default. Replace this with 000000 ( zero 6 times) and
click OK.. And what you get is the number in the required format.

Thanks

You need to create a custom number format. Format -- Cells, on the Number
Tab, select Custom. The select the ) Type and edit it to 000000. That will
force the leading zero to appear.

You can also start your entry with an apostrophe (e.g., '041960) and then it
will appear with the leading zero. Excel will treat cell entries with a
leading apostrophe as text rather than as a number, so keep that in mind if
you need to do any calculations with the entries.
